We recognize the importance of accessibility for all users of our website. Various tools are available for individuals who experience difficulty using websites, and there are also simple features built into Internet Explorer that can assist with accessibility. The following guidelines apply to all sites that you visit.

General Instructions for Mouse and Keyboard-Only Users:

These instructions will help you adjust the website to your preferences:

  1. Turn off default settings to display your preferred style.
  2. Change the font style.
  3. Change the font size.
  4. Change the text and background colours.
  5. Turn off images for a faster loading experience.

1. Turning Off Default Settings for Your Preferred Style

For Mouse Users:

  • On the Internet Explorer menu bar, click Tools, then Internet Options.
  • Under the General tab, click Accessibility.
  • Under Formatting, tick all three checkboxes.
  • Click OK to close the dialog box.

For Keyboard-Only Users:

  • To navigate to the Tools menu, press ALT + T.
  • Select Internet Options by pressing O.
  • Select Accessibility by pressing ALT + E.
  • Under Formatting, tick the following options:
    • Ignore colours specified on web pages by pressing C.
    • Ignore font styles specified on web pages by pressing S.
    • Ignore font sizes specified on web pages by pressing Z.
  • Press ENTER, then ESC to exit the Internet Options dialog box.

2. Changing the Font Size

For Mouse Users:

  • On the Internet Explorer menu bar, click View.
  • Select Text Size and choose the size that best suits you.
    • Alternatively, hold CTRL and scroll up or down with your mouse wheel to adjust the font size.

For Keyboard-Only Users:

  • To navigate to the View menu, press ALT + V.
  • Select Text Size by pressing X.
  • Scroll through the options with the arrow keys, and press ENTER to select your preferred size.

3. Changing the Font Style

For individuals with visual difficulties, certain fonts are easier to read than others. Simple sans-serif fonts like Arial or Verdana are often easier to read than serif fonts like Times New Roman or Georgia.

For Mouse Users:

  • On the Internet Explorer menu bar, click Tools, then Internet Options.
  • Under the General tab, click Fonts.
  • Select the web page and plain text fonts that suit you best.
  • Press OK to save your settings.

For Keyboard-Only Users:

  • To navigate to the Tools menu, press ALT + T.
  • Select Internet Options by pressing O.
  • Under the General tab, select Fonts by pressing ALT + N.
  • To change the web page font, press ALT + W and use the arrow keys to select your preferred font.
  • To change the plain text font, press ALT + P and select the font that best suits you.
  • Press ENTER, then ESC to exit the Internet Options dialog box.

4. Changing the Text and Background Colours

Adjusting the text and background colours can make web pages easier to read. Black text on a yellow background offers one of the highest contrasts.

For Mouse Users:

  • On the Internet Explorer menu bar, click Tools, then Internet Options.
  • Under the General tab, click Colour.
  • Uncheck the Use Windows colour box.
  • This enables the Text and Background buttons, allowing you to select your preferred colours from the colour palette.
  • Press OK twice to save and exit.

For Keyboard-Only Users:

  • To navigate to the Tools menu, press ALT + T.
  • Select Internet Options by pressing O.
  • Under the General tab, select Colours by pressing ALT + O.
  • Uncheck the Use Windows colours box by pressing ALT + W.
  • To change the text colour, press T, and to change the background colour, press B. The color palette will appear, and you can navigate and select the colour using the arrow keys. Press SPACEBAR to select your colour.
  • Press ENTER twice to save and exit, and ESC to close the Internet Options dialog box.

5. Turning Off Pictures

Removing images can help speed up page loading and improve readability for some users.

For Mouse Users:

  • On the Internet Explorer menu bar, click Tools, then Internet Options.
  • Select the Advanced tab.
  • Scroll down to the Multimedia section and uncheck Show pictures.
  • Press OK to save the settings.

For Keyboard-Only Users:

  • To navigate to the Tools menu, press ALT + T.
  • Select Internet Options by pressing O.
  • Select the Advanced tab by pressing ALT + TAB.
  • Scroll down to the Multimedia section and uncheck the Show pictures box by pressing the SPACEBAR.
  • Press ENTER to confirm and select OK.
